Born in Nantes 20 years ago, Hugo Leclercq aka Madeon was introduced to electronic music aged 11, when he came upon a documentary about Daft Punk. A few years later, his breakthrough came by entering an online remix competition for drum’n’bass band Pendulum. His repositioning of their ‘The Island’ as tough, sparkling house won and kickstarted a string of anthemic remixes – for The Killers, Deadmau5 and Martin Solveig amongst others.
Now, he’s not only released a string of acclaimed singles but performed at every major dance event from Las Vegas to Ibiza and racked up a staggering 28m YouTube viewings of Pop Culture (the celebrated video featuring him live mixing 39 different tracks, featuring everyone from ELO to Britney Spears, into three and a half minutes of music). He’s also found his production skills called upon by the biggest names in pop: alongside his credits on records by Muse, Ellie Goulding and Two Door Cinema Club, and co-wrote and produced three songs on Lady Gaga’s Artpop.
His debut album, Adventure, arrives five years after he began releasing tracks under the name Madeon. Actually writing and recording the album was a suitably unique process. On the one hand, there were celebrity guests: Dan Smith of Bastille, Passion Pit and Mark Foster of Foster The People. On the other, Madeon’s vocals feature on three of its tracks. The first single, You’re On, features co-writing credits from Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith, Disclosure, Mary J Blige), testament to Madeon’s unashamed love of pop. The second single, Pay No Mind featuring Passion Pit was Zane Lowe’s hottest record in the world on the 9th of February. Adventure will be released on the 30th of March 2015 (31st of March 2015 in the US) on Columbia Records.
Next, he’s planning a live show that he says he’s been working on for three years, based on the diamond pattern on Adventure’s sleeve. This will be revealed upon release of the album in London, Paris and Brussels. Madeon will then embark on a headline tour of the United-States during which he will also be performing at Coachella for the second time in his career.
To date, combined Youtube views for Madeon’s music stands at over 128 Million.
